Skyros Greece:

:: About Skyros Island
Skyros is the most remote island of the
Sporades and lies north-east of Evia. The northern half of
the island is where the majority of the population lives;
it is the best part of Skyros with cultivated hills and dense
pine forests.
The southern part is barren, rocky and largely uninhabited.
The capital of the island is a whitewashed town with beautiful
flat-roofed houses decorated with the famous furniture, plates
and copper ornaments of Skyros. The island has a long tradition
of painted pottery and ornate woodcarving.
The beaches of Skyros are mostly located
on the sheltered western coast. The most famous beaches are
those of Magazia and Molos; they offer fine sand, clear waters,
all sorts of touristy facilities, many restaurants and a great
choice of accommodations.
For quitter alternatives one can go to the unofficial nudist
beach of Papa tou Houma, to Aspous, to the attractive bay
of Atsitsa with its pine trees going down to the sea or, by
boat, to the bay of Tris Boukies. More secluded sandy bays
are available on Skyros.
