Skiathos Greece:

:: About Skiathos Island
Member of the Sporades, the island of Skiathos
is the most touristy and commercialised of the group, attracting
numerous package tourists.
Before being exploited for tourism the island had some of
the best beaches of Greece; the beautiful sandy beaches shadowed
by verdant pine trees are still embellishing the coasts of
Skiathos but are full of sun beds, water sports facilities,
snack bars and hotels.
The town of Skiathos has some very beautiful mansions and
picturesque alleys. It offers plenty of bars, restaurants
and shops.
The 65 sandy beaches of Skiathos were once
some of the most beautiful beaches of Greece; today, they
are still very attractive but spoiled by the excess of touristy
amenities built on it.
There fine sand, crystalline waters and verdant pine trees
offering their refreshing shadow are explaining the high tourism.
The most famous beach is Koukounaries, full of pine trees
and white sand.
The superb Lalaria beach is only accessible by boat and astonishes
every visitor. Secluded coves can still be found.
