Alonissos Greece:

:: About Alonissos Island
The wonderful island of Alonissos is part
of the group of islands called the Sporades. It is the most
remote of the group and the wildest.
The water around the island is the cleanest in the Aegean
and has been declared a marine park; it is housing the endangered
Mediterranean monk seal which leaves in the sea caves of the
small islets surrounding Alonissos.
The island is full of magical beaches with fine white pebbles,
verdant forests of fruit and oak trees and mastic and arbutus
bushes and has a superb medieval town.
Attractive Alonissos has some of the wildest
and less spoiled beaches of Greece. It is also known for having
some of the cleanest waters in the Aegean.
The beaches of the island are scattered around its southern
and eastern coasts, being protected from the northern winds.
The only sandy beach is Vythisma Beach; all the other beaches
have fine white or multi-coloured pebbles and many are shadowed
by olive and oak trees.
For visitors seeking total solitude, Agios Dimitrios, Megali
Ammos and Yerakas are perfect.
