Spetses Greece:

:: About Spetses Island
Spetses is the most distant of the islands
of the Saronic Gulf from Piraeus, but this doesn’t stop it
to be, like its neighbours, a favourite place for Athenians’
weekend destinations.
The island is also attracting a lot of British holiday makers.
Spetses was once, with neighbouring Hydra, a strong naval
force. It is also famous for being the place where the John
Fowles wrote his novel The Magus, using the island’s landscape
as a source of inspiration.
The capital of the island is very attractive as is its dense
pine forest.
The beaches of the island of Spetses are
lying on the western and eastern coasts. The closest place
to swim from the town is Agia Marina Beach (20 minutes east
of Spetses Town) which becomes very crowded during high season.
The beaches of Agioi Anargiroi and Agia Paraskevi, on the
south-west coast, propose a large range of water sports as
well as sun beds and umbrellas rentals. Ligoneri Beach and
the Blueberry Hill Cove are easily accessible by bus. Coves
with small beaches shadowed by pine trees are also available.
