The peninsula of Halkidiki lies south-east
of the city of Thessaloniki. It is composed of three peninsulas
called Cassandra, Sithonia and Mt. Athos.
Only the first two are opened to tourism; the easternmost
prong, Mt. Athos (the Holy Mountain), belongs to the monastic
community and is welcoming only men with special permit.
Halkidiki is one of the most beautiful parts of Greece, offering
enchanting coves, golden and white sand, crystalline waters,
verdant forests, authentic villages and developed touristy
facilities. |
