Lemnos Greece:
Pictures of Lemnos island, Eastern Aegean
:: About Lemnos Island
Lemnos is part of the North-Eastern Aegean
Islands and lies between the islands of Lesvos and Samothraki.
It is blessed with appealing landscapes, attractive beaches
and villages which have kept their traditional atmosphere.
Because of its strategic position, the island was an important
military base for a long time and its borders were closed
to tourism; it is only very recently that holidaymakers come
to visit the many archaeological sites and enjoy the tranquillity
and unspoiled nature of Lemnos.
The island of Lemnos has some of the best
beaches of the North-Eastern Aegean.
Many of Lemnos’s beaches are located near the capital, Myrina,
such as the long sandy beach of Agios Ioannis surrounded by
huge volcanic rocks, the uspoiled beach of Avlonas with fine
sand and crystalline waters, the organised Platy Beach, the
astonishing Thanos Beach with its azure waters, the long town
beach Romaikos Yialos which proposes water sports facilities
or the beach of Riha Nera (Shallow Waters). More fine beaches
are available.
