Pictures of Chios island, Eastern Aegean
:: About Chios Island
Chios is located in the north-eastern Aegean
Sea, close to the coasts of Turkey, between the islands of
Lesvos and Samos.
It is a big and verdant island well-known for its production
of mastic. The capital of the island has everything to offer,
from traditional taverns to fine restaurants and lively bars.
The old part of the town is particularly interesting with
its beautiful Turkish houses, its market area and its Genoese
castle. Still untouched by mass tourism, Chios has unspoiled
beaches and authentic villages.
Verdant Chios has many beautiful beaches
to offer to visitors. Some are proposing sun beds and umbrellas
rentals as well as some sea sports facilities and are boarded
by taverns.
Others are totally undeveloped, exposing their unspoiled beauty
to the amazed eye of tourists. Most of the beaches of Chios
are scattered on the south-eastern coast, on the eastern coast
and on he central western coast.
The main beach resort of the island is Karfas, (the closest
to the capital) and proposes taverns and accommodations.
