The island group called Dodecanese is the furthest archipelago from the mainland, lying close to the Turkish coast. The name Dodecanese means “Twelve Islands” but the group includes more islands than the twelve main ones. The various invasions of the islands left a superb blend of architectural styles and a blend of Eastern and Western cultures.
