The Cycladic island of Tinos is attracting
a lot of pilgrims coming to see the miraculous icon of the
Virgin Mary, housed in the huge church of Panagia Evangelistria.
The two major annual pilgrimages are taking place every 25th
of March and 15th of August; during those days, thousands
of pilgrims are coming to Naxos and walk on their knees from
the port to the church and follow the procession of the icon.
The island is decorated with white dovecotes and is full of
deserted sandy beaches and superb mountainous villages.
The beaches of Tinos are scattered on the
western and northern coasts of the island.
The nearest to the island’s capital are the beaches of Agios
Fokas, of Agios Sostis and the beach near the settlement of
Kionia.
In Kolymbithra Bay, there is a magnificent double beach. The
wildest part is a temporary residence, during May, to pink
flamingos migrating to Africa, and the second part offers
a couple of taverns and rooms for rent.
Most of the beaches in Tinos are sandy and propose accommodations
and places to eat.
