The Cycladic island of Syros is industrial
at first sight, but its beautiful capital, its undeveloped
beaches and its authentic Greek atmosphere change the first
impression.
The capital of the island is called Ermoupolis and is the
main attraction of Syros. It is the largest town of the Cyclades
and the capital of the archipelago.
Numerous imposing and superb buildings are embellishing the
town, remind of the glorious past of the island, when it was
Greece’s chief port.
The old part of the town is also very interesting to visit.
The beaches in Syros are scattered on its
western and southern coasts. The two best beaches of the island
are located in the Bay of Galissas (on the western coast),
near the village of the same name.
The main beach is the sandy beach of Galissas, which can be
very crowded during high season. The nearby nudist beach of
Armeos is a tiny and beautiful place, with a peaceful atmosphere.
Water sports lovers will find everything they need on the
beach of Finikas.
More beaches and small coves are available in Syros.
