Sifnos Greece:
Pictures of Sifnos island, Cyclades
:: About Sifnos Island
Sifnos is a small island located in the
western part of the Cyclades, between Kimolos (near Milos)
and Serifos.
The island is famous for its fine potteries (because of its
quality of its clay) and numerous shops are selling beautiful
local ceramics.
At first sight the island will seem barren, but this is because
the port is located in the most arid part of it. The eastern
half is full of olive groves, almond trees and fertile valleys
and hillsides.
The capital is very authentic, the Old Town (Kastro) is amazing
and the beaches beautiful.
The island of Sifnos offers some fine beaches,
mostly located on its southern and north-western coasts.
The most famous and popular beach is the one of Platis Gialos,
laying on the southern part of the island. It is a fine sandy
beach, well-organising, proposing a lot of touristy amenities
as well as a nice camping site.
Because of its popularity, Platis Gialos can become very crowded
during the months of July and August. More long sandy and
pebble beaches as well as romantic little coves can be found
on attractive Sifnos.
