Naxos is the largest and
more fertile island of the Cylcades. It used to
be the capital of the Aegean Empire during the Venetian
domination, when it was controlled by the archduke,
Marco Sanudi.
From this time, Naxos has inherited of a superb
medieval town built in an impressive Venetian castle.
This town is the jewel of the town, with its narrow
alleyways, its arcades and its whitewashed houses.
But the island of Naxos has many more treasures
to offer such as paradise-like sandy beaches and
picturesque mountainous villages.
The attractive island of Naxos has the
longest sandy beaches of the Cyclades. The quarter of the
coastline of the island is one immense sandy surface cut in
various beaches.
The sand is golden and the crystal waters are changing from
turquoise to light blue. Agios Prokopios and Agia Anna are
the most frequented beaches and propose sun beds and umbrellas
rentals.
Agios Giorgos is the nearest to the capital and is boarded
by lovely cafes.
At Mikri Vigla, kite surfing courses are available on one
of the small beaches.
